Science

At St Thomas a Becket Catholic Primary School we strive to ensure that our science curriculum planning allows pupils to develop their scientific knowledge and understanding through units of work and Learning Journeys.  Children’s skills in scientific enquiry are tracked as they move through the school, indicating if and when specific skills in planning investigations, obtaining and presenting evidence and evaluating evidence, have been achieved.  It is expected, for example, that a child in Reception would show an interest in and curiosity about objects, living things and events; in Year 1 begin to respond to suggestions about how to find things out, progressing to putting forward their own ideas and predictions in Year 2.  Children will continue to develop their use of scientific vocabulary and record findings in a variety of ways from talking about what they found out to presenting data in graphs and charts. This progression will then continue through Key stage 2.
