At St Thomas a Becket Catholic Primary School we believe that Physical Education (P.E.) is essential to the development of the whole child – academically, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually. It provides the foundation for a healthy lifestyle and promotes character building, co-operation and self-esteem. We encourage children to take part in a range of both competitive and non-competitive sports.  More specifically, during P.E lessons children develop their skills in dance, gymnastics and games, as well as outdoor and adventurous activities.  At St Thomas á Becket Catholic Primary School there are a range of after school clubs that children can attend, including football, tennis, cheerleading, hockey, karate and gymnastics. Health related fitness aspects of the curriculum are incorporated into lessons and linked with other subjects through the Learning Journeys and in more depth in specific Science units. We continue to run the Daily Mile. This is where children run or jog around the field or playground for 15 minutes everyday to improve fitness and concentration. This is in addition to PE lessons and can be completed any time throughout the school day.
